With the sale of the Ravensborg site, many of us mourned the loss of our community home. More than a group of buildings, Ravensborg was build around a group of people who had come together over the years to celebrate our shared interest in a period of history.
For years, our brothers in Skjaldborg have built and maintained a small viking hall in the town of Elk Horn, Iowa - on the grounds of a Danish windmill in one of the city parks. Each year we have joined with the entire community of Elk Horn to celebrate Danish history and culture during the Tivoli festival and we have used the viking "Hjem" for many of our smaller events and trainings throughout the calender.
This year, the community of Elk Horn is welcoming the Ravensborg community to come and celebrate once more! They are providing us ample camping space across from the city park to come and set up our encampments and join arms once again for a weekend of historical reenactment, fighting, parades, carousing and general merriment.
Ravensborg is proud to join the community to have a glorious send-off to our beloved Ravensborg and to raise horns with our Viking brethren one more time. Ravensborg funds will be providing the port-o-johns, a large shelter, and we are planning on a catered feast of sorts (still in planning).
As visitors the City of Elk Horn, we must remember that we are first and foremost guests. This is a Skjaldborg event and we expect the same decorum, comportment, and general rules (including authenticity) while participating in the event. General kit is required for all attendees of the event. There will be scheduled combat/display times posted closer to the event. Combat rules will be identical to those at Ravensborg and led by Skjaldborg.
As always there are no costs to attend this event and any donations made should be to the Danish Windmill.
Merchants and traders were an important part of Viking age life. Trade blankets and private booths are both allowed. There are no fees to trade at this event, but booths/sales will be done in the camping area across from the Windmill site. Traders and merchants do not need to register separately, simply note it on the registration where indicated.
The site opens for camping at 3 pm on Thursday, May 23rd. NO attendees may set up prior to this time without permission.
The community event runs all day Friday and Saturday, with several bars, restaurants and other amenties available. Camping space and Saturday feast will only be made available to those that register using this form. All departures from site should be accomplished by 3 pm on Sunday afternoon.
Please join the Ravensborg Family as we Welcome the Return of the Sun at the Tivoli Festival
Just like for Ravensborg, we will be using our on-line registration and form, this time in conjunction with the Danish Windmill and community of Elk Horn, IA.
Camping space and Saturday feast will only be made available to those that register using this form.
